Programme Jaussen & Savignac

The Jaussen and Savignac Archaeological Research Center is a federation, a consortium of research units from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, with members focused on training and research activities related to the History of Art, Archaeology, Collection Management, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, and Museum Studies in the geographical area of the Near East and the Arab-Muslim world.

The five researches units actual members of The Jaussen and Savignac Archaeological Research Center are:
 

Under the framework agreement of cooperation between The Royal Commission for Al-Ula (RCU) and the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, the missions of the Jaussen and Savignac Archaeological Research Center include the following in particular:

  • The active participation in archaeological research, as well as in the fields of conservation and heritage studies, through the search for synergies between the member research units, notably within the framework of the implementation of the Jaussen & Savignac Chair – Off-site Seminar ;
  • The execution of research projects, studies, and expertise at the regional, national, or international level
  • Promotion of research
  • Dissemination of knowledge and training through research
  • Coordination of the reception and supervision of interns, PhD students, early-career researchers, and academic staff within the member units of the federative structure

 Governance of the Jaussen and Savignac Archaeological Research Center is ensured by a director appointed by the president of University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne
The director is assisted by an executive board, composed of the directors of the member research units or their delegates, which makes decisions on all matters related to scientific policy, resource management, and the organization and functioning of the federative structure. 
A scientific council, composed of two teacher-researchers from the university per member research unit, is also consulted on topics likely to be developed at the interfaces of the units and the resources required for their development. 
A consultative general assembly is composed of every permanent and temporary staff and associates of member research unit concerned by topics and researches activities of the Jaussen and Savignac Archaeological Research Center as well as contract employees hired by the federative structures.
The consulative general assembly meets at least once a year and hears the annual activity report of the federative structure presented by its director, takes a position on any information regarding the evolution of research and its environment, and may make recommendations.
