Application for the 2025–2026 academic year (Non-Saudi students)
Applications for the Jaussen & Savignac Master’s Year 1 programme in Archaeology and Preventive Conservation for the 2025–2026 academic year are open from February 25, 2025 to March 24, 2025, at 11:59 PM, via the eCandidat platform.
Prerequisites: A completed third year of undergraduate studies (L3) and a fieldwork excavation internship or an internship in conservation and preventive archaeology carried out during the summer preceding entry into the Jaussen & Savignac Master’s Year 1 programme. A 20-page internship report will be required during the first semester.
Saudi students
Recruitment of Saudi students for the "Jaussen & Savignac" Master 1 in Archaeology and Preventive Conservation for September 2025
The Jaussen & Savignac programme is recruiting Saudi students for the Master 1 Archaeology course "Jaussen & Savignac Archaeology and Preventive Conservation" at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne for September 2025. Each year, this Master 1 programme trains ten Saudi, French and international students interested in Near Eastern archaeology.
Training in archaeological fieldwork and preventive conservation is at the heart of this offer and will enable successful candidates to apply for the Master 2 in Archaeology and Master 2 in Conservation-restoration of cultural property at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
The total duration of the program is therefore of three years.
Course of studies
The Saudi students recruited will receive one year's training in French as a Foreign Language at a language center in France, starting on September 1,2025.
The Saudi students recruited will effectively enter Master 1 at the end of the French as a Foreign Language training year, September 1, 2026.
The Saudi students recruited will receive a scholarship for their year of training in French as a Foreign Language, as well as for the duration of their Master's studies.
Entry requirements for the Programme
The Archaeology specialization is open to all students holding a Bachelor's degree, in France or abroad, in the Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as to students holding a Bachelor's degree in Art, Literature, Languages and Health Technology Sciences. These conditions must be met prior to the preliminary language training year, upon entry into the programme.
How to apply
Applicants wishing to submit a candidacy must send the documents below to the following address by May 29 at 12:00 PM: sec.jaussen-savignac@univ-paris1.fr :
- Curriculum vitae
- Cover letter describing the applicant's project (in English), addressed to Prof. Gaëlle Tallet, Director of the program
- Copy of bachelor's degree or equivalent (official translation into English or French)
- Letter of recommendation from a Saudi or international academic specializing in Middle Eastern archaeology, a head of an archaeological mission operating in Saudi Arabia or a member of the Royal Commission for AlUla.
Selection of applications
An initial selection will be made by the members of the admissions jury on the basis of the applications submitted. Selected candidates will be informed by June 5 at the latest to prepare for their audition.
Selected candidates will be interviewed in English, via videoconference, with the admissions jury on June 12, 2025.
The audition will last 15 minutes, including 10 minutes for the candidate's presentation and 5 minutes for questions from the jury.
The results of the interviews will be announced on June 13, 2025.
