Recruitment of a research engineer specialising in geophysics for the Hegra Archaeological Project (18-month fixed-term contract)
The Hegra Archaeological Project is recruiting a geophysicist on an 18-month fixed-term contract starting on 1 October 2026. Applications must be submitted on Tuesday 30 June 2026 by 4.00 pm (Paris time) at the latest.
The Hegra Archaeological Project is led by Pauline Piraud-Fournet, researcher of the Jaussen & Savignac Programme (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Department of Art History and Archaeology), and Abdullah Basonbol (King Saud University). The research aims to shed light on the history of the Saudi site of Hegra from antiquity to the present day. To analyse the organisation and developmental history of the city, geophysical surveys must be carried out and the resulting data analysed.
Under the supervision of the geophysics manager of the Hegra Archaeological Project (HAP), the geophysicist (M/F) will collect geophysical measurements in the field, process the data and publish the resulting geophysical maps for various areas of the Hegra site (the town, the necropolis and the oasis). The researcher (M/F) will take part in all field missions, where he/she will contribute to the organisation and conduct of scientific field operations. The geophysicist (M/F) will be required to undertake frequent visits to Lyon, to the Archéorient laboratory (CNRS/University of Lyon 2), to process and analyse the data collected in the field.
