Opening of the 14th International Congress of Archaeology of the Ancient Near East (ICAANE)

It's off to the 14th ICAANE International Congress of the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East!  

Organised this year by the Université Lyon 2 and the Maison de l'Orient et de la Méditerranée, it will take place in LYON throughout the week (from 2 to 7 June 2025). Pascal Butterlin from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is one of the members of the international committee.  

The programme includes eight thematic sessions covering interdisciplinary research and new approaches to the archaeology of the Ancient Near East, from prehistory to the Islamic period.

We are pleased to announce the following papers presented by members of the Jaussen & Savignac programme:  

▪️ On Monday 2 June : Maria Laguardia: « How were the dead buried at Thaj? Analysis and reconstruction of funerary rituals » with Jérôme ROHMER, Vladimir DABROWSKI, Seth PRIESTMAN, Jacqueline STUDER and Patrice COURTAUD

▪️ On Tuesday 3 June : Hussein Madina « How the climatic/environmental research oriented the archaeological work and its interpretation in Palestine. (Environmental archaeology) »

▪️ And on Thursday 5 June : Hervé Monchot : « The development of Archaeozoology in Saudi Arabia: the AZAP Research project and the Jaussen & Savignac Research center (Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne University) » with Gaëlle Tallet, director of the Jaussen and Savignac programme and @Ingrid Perissé-Valero, director of archaeological research and heritage @Afalula
