Jaussen & Savignac Off-site Seminar 2025
To conclude this semester of Year 2 of the Jaussen & Savignac programme, a four-day seminar brought together students, teachers, and researchers in the Paris region.
On Monday, Gaëlle Tallet, director of the Jaussen and Savignac Center, opened the seminar by recalling the rationale behind the Franco-Saudi Jaussen & Savignac programme, which stems from a cooperation agreement between l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and The Royal Commission for AlUla. She highlighted the challenges of this session, which focused on archaeological research and preventive conservation: establishing links between generations of researchers and students, but also providing a laboratory of ideas to refine the programme's research themes and define the outlines of future research projects.
The studious yet friendly atmosphere encourages everyone to engage in discussion and sharing, greatly benefiting this Franco-Saudi partnership. Layla Fahim, Director of the Kingdoms Institute of The Royal Commission for AlUla, who came especially for the occasion, expressed her pride in this partnership, which will lay the foundations for research by future generations in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East and the Arab-Muslim world.
