Call for Applications for Postdoctoral Contracts 2027–2029

The Jaussen & Savignac Archaeological Programme is recruiting four two-year postdoctoral researchers.

 

The Jaussen & Savignac Archaeological Programme is opening applications for four postdoctoral positions, each lasting two years, beginning on 1 January 2027. Two of these postdoctoral contracts are specifically intended for candidates from the Arab world.

Working Environment

Dedicated to the development of archaeology and preventive conservation in the Arabian Peninsula and, more broadly, in the Arab-Muslim world, the programme operates within the Jaussen & Savignac Archaeological Research Centre, directed by Gaëlle Tallet, Professor of Hellenistic and Roman Archaeology of the East.

Position Description

The postdoctoral researcher, recruited from 1 January 2027 for a period of 24 months, will contribute to the research activities of the Jaussen & Savignac Archaeological Research Centre by developing a research project aligned with at least one of the six thematic areas listed below.

The project proposal must also include a plan for organising doctoral seminars and/or scientific events, for which an associated budget will be allocated.

  • Epistemology and Historiography of Archaeology and Conservation in the Eastern Regions.

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct their activities within one of the six research units associated with the Jaussen & Savignac Archaeological Research Centre:

  • UMR 8215 Trajectoires
  • UMR 8167 Orient et Méditerranée
  • EA 4100 HICSA, within the Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage Objects research group
  • UMR 7041 ArScAn
  • UMR 8068 TEMPS

The research will be supervised by a professor from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne accredited within Doctoral School ED 112 (Archaeology or Preventive Conservation).

Candidate Profile

The selected postdoctoral researcher must hold a PhD in Archaeology or Preventive Conservation.

There are no age or nationality requirements.

Recruitment will be based on an application file to be submitted before 17 September 2026 at 4:00 p.m. (Paris time).
