14th International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East (ICAANE)
Who says archaeology is dusty, soporific and outdated?
Last Friday saw the end of ICAANE, one of the largest conferences on the archaeology of the ancient Near and Middle East. The conference covered all periods.
1,079 participants from 50 countries
752 talks
112 posters presenting summaries of ongoing research
The hashtag#ICAANE is an opportunity to present research and results in a dynamic format to as many specialists in the archaeology of the Ancient Near East as possible and, for doctoral students, a great opportunity to introduce themselves to the international community.
This place of intellectual ferment functions as a real research incubator, enabling:
• comparing research and results
• initiating scientific projects
• refocusing research areas and issues
• generating new ideas
• Setting up new joint projects in the future
And let's not forget the social events organised to encourage scientific exchange and talk to as many people as possible.
Among the participants were researchers, doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers from the Programme Jaussen & Savignac, including a first-year J&S Master's student specialising in archaeology and preventive conservation. The next generation is not far behind! 😊
Special thanks to the Université Lumière Lyon 2 and the Maison de l'Orient et de la Méditerranée | MOM for their warm welcome and superb organisation 👏
You couldn't make it this year? See you in 2 years' time in Tbilisi, Georgia.
