59th Seminar for Arabian Studies

From 30 July to 1 August 2026, the 59th Seminar on Arabic Studies will take place at the University of Bologna, where around ten members of the Jaussen & Savignac Programme (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and The Royal Commission for AlUla) will present papers:

- Pauline Piraud-Fournet & Abdullah Basonbol, directors of the Hegra Archaeological Project, along with members of the project: new discoveries shedding light on the history of the Hegra site (Saudi Arabia) prior to the Nabataean period.

-Silvia Lischi: organising a seminar session devoted to theoretical and methodological advances concerning the relationship between nomads and kingdoms; an introduction addressing the dichotomy between nomadic and sedentary peoples; the pastoral site of Dhofar (Oman) [two papers]; the emergency excavations at As-Subaykhi (Oman).

-Tiffany Aires da Cruz & Marie Laguardia: study of burials in protohistoric Arabia using a multi-proxy approach.

-Guillaume Chung-To: agricultural and technological developments in north-western Arabia during the early Islamic period; the port of Sohar (Oman) during the early Islamic period.

-Hervé Monchot: a Nabataean-Roman house from the al Bad’ oasis (Saudi Arabia).

-Mathilde Lenoir: the urban sanctuary of Dhū Ghābat at Dadan (Saudi Arabia) in the 2nd and 1st millennia BCE.
