21st Doctoral Conference on Archaeology (ED 112 - Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne)

Two PhD students holding doctoral contracts under the Jaussen & Savignac Programme (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and The Royal Commission for AlUla) will take part in the 21st Archaeology PhD Day, entitled « Circulez ! Les voies de circulation, approvisionnement et réseaux en archéologie » [‘Circulez! Traffic Routes, Supply Chains and Networks in Archaeology’], which will take place on Wednesday 20 May 2026, from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm, at the Institute of Art and Archaeology in Paris.

On the theme of ‘supply circuits: the provenance of materials’, Jonathan Gaukesbrink will present a paper on “A multitude of ideas, materials and products – A preliminary approach to lithic networks in the Ancient Near East (3000–330 BCE)’, based on an examination of Iraqi lithic assemblages and by cross-referencing the data with other sources such as cuneiform texts. On the theme of ‘control and actors in circulation’, Ilia Salvaterra will present a paper entitled ‘From archaeologist to network: identifying the actors in circulation at Jericho’, which will seek, through the examples of two archaeologists involved in research at Tell es-Sultan, to offer a methodological reflection on the circulation of excavated archaeological objects.
